Three suspects were arrested — Ricardo Barton, 22; Desmond Garner, 23; and Gregg Starks III, 23. They are charged with first-degree murder and robbery.

Bennett’s family said he worked two jobs to pay for a party for his son’s first birthday. His family will throw a birthday party for Emmanuel Wright Bennett at his grandmother’s home in northwest Washington Saturday afternoon. Then they will begin planning his father’s funeral.

The suspects were ordered held without bond. Their next scheduled court date is at the end of April.
