Crazed: Travis Glaspie bit a chunk out of a police dog’s ear
A crazed fugitive bit a police dog’s ear off after he was brought the ground following a dramatic chase.
Travis Glaspie, 22, from Wilmington, North Carolina, was being pursued by police dog Maxx after he fled officers who were trying to detain him over a shooting incident.
Two-year-old Maxx soon caught up with his man and in the ensuing struggle, Glaspie bit into his ear ripping it in two.
But Maxx bit back and Glaspie later had to be treated for wounds to his thigh at New Hanover Regional Medical Center before he was taken to jail.
Brave Maxx required more than 15 stitches to repair his ear but is expected to make a full recovery and return to duty within a few weeks.
Glaspie was being held under a $1 million bond on charges of assault on a law enforcement animal, resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, property damage and possession of a controlled substance.
Jail officials did not know if he has a lawyer.
Cpl. David Pellegrino told ABC affiliate WWAY: ‘When [Glaspie] was biting the dog, it was something we haven’t seen.
‘Yes, our dogs do get assaulted, but no one has ever tried to cannibalize one of our animals before.’
Glaspie was wanted for allegedly opening fire on an occupied vehicle while riding by on a bicycle.
