Police believe that Sadé Goldsmith was the mother of the children and that she had a prior relationship with the injured man, said police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley.
Smiley declined to say whether police believe the shootings were a triple murder and attempted suicide but said they are ‘not looking for anyone else at this time.’
The boys were seen playing outside their house on Friday and helping to wash a car in the driveway on Saturday.
The family had only recently moved in and neighbours were not familiar with the murder victims, police said.
The the scene of the shootings was cordoned off by police tape after a caller rang police shortly before 6am on Sunday.
The injured man, whose name has not been released, was listed as being in serious condition at University Hospital on Sunday evening.
Autopsies on the three dead are scheduled for today.
