A family shopping trip has ended with a 12-year-old girl getting Tasered by a police officer inside a Victoria’s Secret in St. Louis last week.

According to law enforcement officials, the unnamed officer came into the lingerie store at South County Center looking to arrest Dejamon Baker‘s mother on outstanding traffic tickets. However, it was her daughter who paid the price.

Baker, 12, told the station KSDKthat the charge of the stun gun  coursing through her body has left her shaking on the floor, unable to control her limbs.

The prongs of the device got stuck in the girl’s chest and stomach, and her mother struggled to pull them out, leaving the teen with two small wounds on her body.

Last Wednesday, Baker, her mother, 27-year-old Charlene Bratton, and several other relatives went on a shopping trip to the local mall.

Bratton had just tried on a pair of shorts and was about to purchase them when she was confronted by a St. Louis County officer. Bratton said she had outstanding warrants for her arrest for numerous unresolved traffic tickets.

‘He said, ‘Put your hands behind your back,‘ and I said, ‘For what?’ Next thing you know, he tackled me down on the ground,’ she said.

That is when the 12-year-old girl said the officer turned to her as she stood nearby, weeping, and Tasered her. ‘I guess he got mad because I was crying or something,’ Baker said.

A police spokesman said the officer stated that the girl was physically interfering with the arrest  and would not back away, but both Dejamon and her mother deny that.

‘He should have had enough control to tell her to get back instead of pulling out his gun,’ Bratton said.

While officials said the arresting officer’s actions were justified, they do admit that it is a unique situation.

A spokesperson for the police department has suggested that Bratton report the incident to internal affairs to have it investigated.
