The Brooklyn principal who promised to give condoms to students at prom is no longer handing out the controversial party favors, according to reports.
Principal Darryl Rascoe of Bedford-Stuyvesant Preparatory High School had intended to give out condoms on the kids’ big night to combat their exposure to sexually transmitted diseases — and to try to cut down on teen pregnancies.
He reversed his stance — and told Channel 7 News on Friday that he’d killed the free condom program because he feared running afoul of Department of Education rules.
“I don’t want to do anything against DOE policy,” Rascoe said.
Education Department spokeswoman Margie Feinberg said that making condoms available at prom would not violate the agency’s rules, as long as kids’ parents signed release forms.
