A news reporter hunting for clues in a murder case became part of the story when she had gun pulled on her by one of the murder suspect’s relatives angry that she was investigating.
Journalist April Thompson arrived at the home of Wilton Goudeaux, an elderly man who was allegedly killed by his son and two others, to find out more details.
While at the Arkansas home a man drove up, jumped out of his car and confronted the journalist and her cameraman, Ben Short, saying that ‘everybody was lying about Mr Goudeaux.’

Confrontation: Brandom Odom was not happy when a journalist and her cameraman turned up to investigate the murder of Wilton Gordeaux
Camera shy: Odom lashed out at the camera and said that ‘everybody was lying about Mr Gordeaux’ but the situation was about to get much worse
Aggressive: Brandon Odom, the relative of a murder suspect, then threatened the news team with a gun
Clearly furious the man, who identified himself as the ‘best friend’ of Goudeaux’s son, pushed the camera away and when Thompson tells him he cannot do that he dashed back to his car and grabbed his gun.
Victim: WREG Channel 3 News reporter April Thompson, and her cameraman had a gun pulled on them while at work investigating
Wielding a hand gun he threatens the pair saying: ‘I bet I can do this.’
The journalists, who work for WREG Channel 3 News, immediately called the police, who identified the gun toting criminal as Brandon Odom.
It was then revealed that Odom had more cause to be touchy about the case than being the murder suspect’s ‘best friend’ – Odom’s sister, Mary, is also under investigation for her part in Wilton Gordeaux’s death.
Along with Goudeaux’s son and one other, Mary Odom, who was the victim’s caretaker, is accused of drugging the elderly man with sleeping pills, using meth while caring for him, stealing $100,000 from him, and leaving him malnourished.
The three suspects are currently in jail as the investigation continues.
Brandon Odom handed himself into police and now faces charges of aggravated assault.
‘I didn’t know what to expect,’ said Thompson. ‘The last thing I thought is that he was going to the car to get a gun, but he was obviously angry. He wanted us to get out of there. We moved back but we are going to continue to follow the story with what happens to him, as well as the other three.’
